Caleb “Sweethands” Plant from Ashland City will try to win all four championship belts in the super middleweight boxing division on Saturday, Nov. 6 when he fights Canelo Alvarez of Mexico.

Plant (21-0, 12 knockouts) and Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) will fight in Las Vegas, where Plant has his training facility. Plant won the IBF title in 2019. Alvarez added the WBO title to his WBA and WBC belts last May.

It will be the first time that one boxer will hold all four championship belts in the 168-pound division at the same time.

Alvarez reportedly will be paid $40 million for the fight and Plant reportedly will be paid $10 million. The fight is available on Showtime pay-per-view for $79.99.

Before a workout last week, Alvarez, 31, said he doesn’t expect the fight to go all 12 rounds.

“I feel that the first couple of rounds will be difficult but then, as the fight progresses, in Rounds 7, 8, 9, I feel I am going to be able to get him out of there,” he said.

“(Plant) has good boxing skills, a good jab, good moves. He knows what he’s doing. Like I said before, that’s nothing new for me. I know what I need to do.”

Plant disagreed with that prediction.

“The first couple of rounds are going to be tough, the middle rounds are going to be tough, and the late rounds are going to be tough,” Plant, 29, said before a workout last week. “He’s got a tall order ahead of him.

““I believe that there are a handful of things that I am better than Canelo at in the ring. But the only way to find out is to tune-in on November 6. It’s not going to matter what I say right now, people aren’t going to believe me anyway. I’d rather show you than tell you.”

Plant will have a height advantage. He is 6-foot-1 and Alvarez is 5-8. That gives Plant a 3½-inch reach advantage.

Plant won his IBF championship in January 2019 and has made three successful title defenses since then.

Both boxers were slightly injured when they both threw punches at a press conference for the fight last month.

“I don’t think I need to be any more motivated than I already am to fight for the undisputed super middleweight championship of the world,” Plant said. “It’s a fight that we both obviously want to win.
