It may be baseball season, but three Fairview young men recently turned their focus on football and earned a spot on the Tennessee Future Stars Football roster to compete in the 2021 Kentucky-Tennessee All Star Game.

Luke Skelton, Aiden Quinonez and Tanner Tapp were among over 300 sixth, seventh and eighth graders from across the state attending TN Future Star’s tryouts in April held in four major Tennessee cities.

The TN Future Stars’ competitive tryouts, also known as combines, are designed to scope out the state’s best football talent. At the combines, each player was evaluated based on weight, height, 40-yard dash time, broad jump and shuttle runs between a set of cones.

The Tennessee Future Stars team rosters were announced in May with Skelton, Quinonez and Tapp making the cut to earn a spot on the 41-player roster.

Selected players then reported to camp at Lipscomb University and began practicing as a team a few days prior to the big Kentucky-Tennessee All Star Game. At camp, Tapp was also chosen to serve as a team captain.

The sixth grade Tennessee Team faced off against the sixth grade Kentucky Team on the gridiron at Brentwood Academy. The football game is patterned after high school all-star games, and Fairview’s trio did an amazing job representing.

Tennessee lost the game 7-12 when Kentucky was able to stop Tennessee on the 2-yard line with just two seconds left in the game.

The young athletes were also able to discern their own stage of development compared to their peers from across the state. They also received technique instruction specific to their position in hopes of improving their game skills.

Fairview football fans can look forward to seeing these young men representing Fairview Middle this season and Fairview High in years to come.
