I do love Christmas and was thrilled to hear about the Christmas in July sales at our area Goodwill stores this weekend.

Goodwill officials have been collecting the donated holiday goods for months and now have plenty of unique pre-loved holiday decor as well as thousands of brand-new Yuletide items — from lighted trees to outdoor decorations to tree trimmings.

The Christmas in July sales take place Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18, at all Midstate Goodwill stores, except the two outlets.

“Each of Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee’s 29 retail stores will have dozens of lighted artificial trees available, with 9-foot spruce and fir varieties priced at $79.99 or $99.99, respectively,” Goodwill spokesperson Chris Fletcher said. He said some of the trees originally retailed for as much as $398.

“Large outdoor yard decorations, including a lighted Santa Claus, will be under $50. And packages of ornaments, snowflakes and snow blankets will be just $2,” he said.

“We expect to have a lot of merchandise in each store.”

Fletcher said a big draw for shoppers will be the “new-in-box” Christmas merchandise that was donated by Lowe’s Home Improvement. “It was a large donation,” he said, adding that in addition to the new trees, the selection will include LED light strings and candles, light testers and wreath holders.

With last Christmas pretty much a wash, with so many people avoiding or minimizing traditional celebrations because of COVID-19, this sale should be a welcome shopping opportunity for a lot of us as we look forward to Christmas 2021.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to deck your halls for a beautiful holiday season while saving a sleigh-full of money,” said Leisa Wamsley, Goodwill’s vice president of donated goods. “It’s also a great way to support a nonprofit organization that serves the community year-round.”

Purchases at the Christmas in July event, just like all purchases from Goodwill’s stores, benefit the nonprofit organization’s mission of “changing lives through education, training and employment.”

The Christmas in July sale takes place during normal Goodwill store hours — 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, July 17, and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, July 18.

And yes, there will be holiday music filling the stores during the sale. “It should be fun and festive,” Fletcher said.
