The Friends of Bowie Nature Park’s annual Plant Swap is this Saturday.

If you are a gardener, you have undoubtedly faced the dilemma of having to thin out some plants that have taken over an area, but not wanting to throw out the “extras.” The solution is to bring those extra plants to the Friends of Bowie’s annual plant swap this Saturday, April 30.

The event will be held at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Bowie Park Nature Center. Setup starts at 8:30 a.m. and the whistle blows at 9 a.m. sharp for the start of the swap. While no early swapping is allowed, you do need to be there on time as the swap only lasts about 15-20 minutes.

Share your extras with other gardeners and pick up something new for your own garden.

Cuttings, seeds, bulbs, or whole plants are all acceptable. Outdoor plants, indoor plants, edible crops and ornamentals are all welcome.

Along with your plants, bring a note card with basic information to share with the adoptive gardener such as the plant name, how to care for the plant and any cautions such as toxicity to children or pets.

Everyone is also invited to stay for Bowie Nature Park’s Arbor Day Celebration.
