Fairview High School’s Delan Grant recently signed to compete on the Carson Newman University Track Team.
The 18-year-old is the son of Travis and Vickie Grant. He competes in several track and field events including 100m, 200m, 4-100m, 4-200m, 4-400m and the long jump.
The scholarship offer is even more special since Delan has only been competing in track for one year. He was introduced to the sport by his coach. “I was told by Coach Jameel to run,” said Delan, and that is exactly what he did. He was also inspired to run by teammate Brooke Visser.
High school career highlights include 11.7 in 100m, 23.15 in 200m and 19 feet in the long jump.
His favorite memory over the last year was when the team won their first plaque of the season.
Delan said he chose Carson Newman after learning that they had the pastor major he wanted to pursue with his ministry studies.
Carson Newman University is a private liberal arts university in Jefferson City, Tennessee. It was founded in 1851 and enrolls about 2,500 students.
