A familiar face to Fairview, Payton (Sullivan) Lamar took the stage in part two of the blind auditions on the popular television singing competition show The Voice on Tuesday night – and secured a spot on Team Blake!
Payton announced her audition on social media in early October, “I am beyond excited to finally announce, I auditioned for @NBCTheVoice!” While all the details were not revealed until the show aired, Payton already had a big Fairview fan club rooting for her success along with her husband Matthew.
During the blind auditions, the musician coaches have their backs to the stage and can only hear each artist’s voice. The coaches hear the artists perform, and if impressed, they can push a button to rotate their chair and select the artist for their team.
For her blind audition, Payton performed a Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin’s song “Never Alone.” Exhibiting her wide range, Payton drew the attention of judge Blake Shelton, who hit his button to spin his chair and claim Payton as a member of Team Blake.
Moments later, social media posts exploded in Fairview with well wishes and congratulations to Payton, who is a Fairview High School graduate.
“Dreams come true,” said Payton, adding, “I’m so excited and thankful to have this opportunity and all of your support!”
On her Twitter account @payton_lamar, Payton shared, “It all really boils down to how much you believe in yourself & how much work you’re willing to put in to get to where you wanna be!”
After her audition aired, Payton tweeted, “Guys, I’m blown away. God is so good!”
Payton’s Fairview friends and fans think she is pretty good, too – really good. Many local residents are showing her the love and looking forward to what her future holds on this season of The Voice.
Main Street Fairview will be watching, too!
