The Big Payback event returns next Wednesday, May 5, and the Friends of Bowie Nature Park (FBNP) need donations to build the future Bowie Park Treehouse Playground.

“This year’s Big Payback will be huge for us! We can not only raise funds for our playground build, but we can also earn cash prizes and take advantage of matching funds! This means we could literally double our donations,” shared Sherry Wright with the Bowie Playground Build committee.

The 24-hour campaign to raise funds for many area non-profits begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 and ends at 6 p.m. on May 6.

“We are aiming high for the grand prize of $5,000 for most unique donors,” shared Wright, who added, “Our goal is to raise $50,000 during Big Payback!”

In 2019, the Friends of Bowie Nature Park had 21 donors and raised a little over $1,200. This year, donors will be tracked by their individual email address, meaning the more people that donate with their own unique email address increases the FBNP’s chances to win the additional prize money.

Wright said, “We fully expect to blow this out of the water in 2021!”

The Friends are asking Fairview area family, friends and co-workers to donate individually. For example, if the whole family wants to give $100, each person would donate $20 with their individual emails, and it would count as five donations for the Bowie Playground and could result in more prize money.

To further support the Bowie Playground Build, Nando’s Burrito and Taco Shop will be donating 10 percent of their Wednesday, May 5 proceeds to the Friends of Bowie Park’s playground fundraising campaign. On Thursday, May 6, Fairview Nutrition will also donate a percentage of their proceeds from the day to the project.

Wright emphasized, “Together, we can bring this Big Vision to life! Together we can reach thousands of people, tell the story and give them the opportunity to be part of something great for our kids and our community.”
